Health and Physical Education (HPE)

Health and Physical Education (HPE) is a compulsory subject at Loxton High School in Year 9 (full year course) and Year 10 (semester course). HPE has a strong emphasis on personal and social development through the variety of Health and Movement topics covered. Health topics taught include; Relationships & Sexual Health, Mental Health and Fitness & Nutrition. Movement topics include; athletics along with adventure and challenge, Invasion activities, Striking and Fielding and Net and wall activities. This thematic approach promotes movement skills and concepts & the ability to transfer skills.

Students are also strongly encouraged to participate in a wide variety of extra-curricular activities such as: swimming, triathlon, athletics, cross country and volleyball, which are all closely linked to the Physical Education curriculum.

At Year 10 students have the opportunity to select specialist semester courses in:
Year 10 Volleyball
Year 10 Sports Coaching
Year 10 Canoeing & Recreation

In Senior School, students can elect to further their studies in this area of the curriculum by selecting from:
SACE Stage 1 and 2 Physical Education
SACE Stage 1 and 2 Sports Studies and
SACE Stage 1 and 2 Outdoor Education

Duke of Edinburgh Pathway

Year 9 subject The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award is an enriching program which empowers young people to explore their potential by setting specific and individual goals, developing resilience, lifelong practical skills, leadership skills, initiative, organisation and perseverance. This is achieved through participating in a range of structured activities.

This course allows students to work toward completing the Bronze Award.
