Athletics

Loxton High School has a proud Athletics tradition, based on hard work and effort, by both staff and students. Loxton has been State Champions on numerous occasions at the SASSSA Track & Field Championships and is the longest standing school in the A1 competition.

Standards Day is just one of our whole school sporting events. Students are divided into House age groups and move through 7 different track and field events – 100m, 400m, Long Jump, High Jump, Javelin, Discus and Shot Put. Student leaders are able to record the names of strong performers to help House Captains in the selection of their teams. Lunchtime trainings are also conducted by the team of staff coaches to help students complete Trial cards.

House Captains divide their students into Athletes and Ball Games competitors in order for more specialized trainings to occur in morning Sports Training, run by staff. Our goal is for everyone to be actively involved.

Sports Day is a combination of Championship Athletics and Ball Games events with shields presented to the winners of each category. Age-group Cup winners are also acknowledged. Following Sports Day, a squad is chosen to represent Loxton at the Riverland Interschool event and the SASSSA ‘A1’ Grade carnival held in Adelaide. Students also have the opportunity to nominate for Interschool Ball Games selection.

Loxton’s reputation as a force in Athletics has stood the test of time and is something of which we are very proud. The challenge is to continue to work hard and maintain our high standards.
