Swimming

In the lead up to our whole school swimming carnival all students are bussed to the local 50m pool for ‘Swim Trials’. This is an opportunity for House Captains to select their team, with swimmers required for both individual Championship events and relays. For those who aren’t particularly strong, it is an opportunity to support your House by swimming a lap for a point. Staff are also encouraged to be involved.

The School Swimming Carnival is conducted on one day with Championship events at the start and finish and the middle being devoted to Novelty events. The philosophy is that everyone should be able to take part in some capacity. Championship and Novelty shields are awarded as are Age Group Trophy winners.

Following the School Swimming Carnival, a representative team is chosen to compete in the Riverland Interschool event and the SASSSA ‘C’ Grade carnival held in Adelaide. Lunchtime training sessions are held to develop a sense of ‘team’. It is also a valuable time for experienced club swimmers to pass on their knowledge. Loxton swimmers have acquitted themselves very well in recent years at both Riverland level and against much bigger city schools in the Adelaide competition
