Physical Education

Health and Physical Education is a compulsory subject at Loxton High School in Years 8 and 9 (full year course) and Yr 10 (semester course). At Yr 10, students have the opportunity to select specialist semester courses in: Volleyball, Sports Coaching and Outdoor Education (Canoeing). In Senior School, students can elect to further their studies in this area of the curriculum by selecting from: Physical Education (Stage 1 & 2), Sports Studies (Stage 1 & 2) and Outdoor Education (Stage 1 only).

The philosophy of Physical Education at Loxton High School has a strong emphasis on personal development, through regular participation in physical activity. Students are also strongly encouraged to participate in a wide variety of extra-curricular activities such as: swimming, triathlon, athletics, cross country and volleyball, which are all closely linked to the Physical Education curriculum.

In terms of the delivery of the HPE program, Loxton High School has outstanding facilities which have been developed and constantly upgraded over many years. The gymnasium comprises 3 volleyball courts and incorporates an inbuilt television screen with the latest ICT capabilities. There are also 6 synthetic grass tennis courts, 3 beach volleyball courts and a well maintained oval with athletics track. Complementing our specialist PE sporting facilities is our well-equipped Outdoor Ed shed. This houses 3 sets of kayaks / Canadian canoes and extensive, quality lightweight camping equipment used for bushwalking expeditions.
